A Cricut, a vinyl cutter or a laser follows every path in your file, so the file needs one closed path for each cut, no overlapping or duplicate lines, and separate layers for separate colors or jobs. An auto-trace of an AI image often breaks all three rules, which is why machines cut twice. We redraw your artwork with closed paths and no overlaps, group it by color, and check it before you pay for the final files.

What the software makers say
Cricut Design Space. On joining overlapping shapes, Cricut’s help says of Weld: “Wherever cut paths have intersected, only the exterior cut path will remain.” Attach is a different tool: it “holds your cuts in position relative to one another” on the mat.
LightBurn (laser software). Colors are labels, not instructions: “Lasers don’t print in color, so these colors don’t represent the final product’s colors but instead differentiate each operation needed to complete the job.” And: “all graphics that share the same color/layer will be cut or engraved by your laser with the exact same settings.” For filled areas: “all shapes you assign to Fill Mode must be closed.” Its Delete Duplicates tool is there to remove “duplicate shapes which might otherwise cause erroneous moves and double-cuts.” Its Kerf Offset, which compensates for the width of the cut, “only works with shapes that are closed.”
Epilog (laser). Epilog reads line width where LightBurn reads layers. Its support article says: “Use (0.001″) or (0.072pt) line width for vector cutting,” “Use thicker lines for raster engraving,” and “Always use RGB colors.” The article is dated 2026-03-30.
So the same file isn’t right for every machine. Tell us which software you use.
What we deliver
- One closed path for every cut, with no open ends.
- No overlapping or duplicate paths, so the machine passes once.
- One group per color, so you can send each color to its own material or its own laser operation.
- Text converted to outlines and no embedded bitmaps.
- SVG plus a DXF copy.
- True size. We leave the paths at their nominal size. How much material the blade or beam removes depends on your machine and material, so that compensation stays in your own software.
- A one-page report that lists what we checked, including open paths and overlaps, and marks anything we can’t verify “check with your printer.”
- Editable source files (AI, SVG, PDF) and PNG, all included, with logo variants for logos.
What we don’t do
- Test-cut on your machine. We check the geometry. You do the first cut on a scrap.
- Promise a DXF will open the way you expect in a particular program. We don’t list supported laser or CAD software. If you need DXF, tell us what you open it in.
- Set Epilog’s line widths or your LightBurn layer settings. Those are machine settings. The sources above show the rules.
- Turn a photo into a cut file. A cutter can’t follow a photograph. For photos, you choose Line art or a Flat illustration (4–8 colors), which we can turn into closed paths.
How to fix a file yourself
If your file cuts twice, Why does my Cricut cut twice? lists the causes and the fix for Illustrator, Inkscape, Design Space and LightBurn. If a simple one-color shape is all you need, it’s quicker to fix the trace yourself.
What it costs
| Your image | Tier | Price | New customer, first order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat logo or wordmark | Flat logo & wordmark | 19 credits ($19) | 10 credits ($10) |
| Badge or mascot | Badge & mascot | 29 credits ($29) | 15 credits ($15) |
| Gradients or many parts | Gradient & complex | 39 credits ($39) | 20 credits ($20) |
| Fine texture or engraved shading | Detailed illustration | 59–79 credits ($59–79), quoted when you upload | Not included |
The hardest part of the image sets the price, and it’s shown when you upload. A cut file with many separate designs is priced per design. If your cutting service rejects the file because of the file itself within 30 days, send us their note and we fix it free.
